District 16 teams are first, second in state in the Minnesota Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl

 

Spring Lake Park School District 16 academic teams placed first and second in the state in the Minnesota Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl.

 

A 6th grade team from Westwood Middle School placed first in the state for the fifth consecutive year.  A 5th grade team from Westwood Intermediate School placed second in the state.  Both schools are in Blaine.

 

The annual competition is a computer contest of 100 multiple-choice questions.  Areas covered include math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, English, history, general information, and just plain fun trivia.  Points are awarded based on how fast students answer the questions as well as on accuracy.

Members of the first place Westwood Middle School team are Matt Albers, Ben Allen, Jocelyn Bayer, Emma Beecken, Michele Heggerston, Andy Johnson, Lee Kallestad, and Nikitha Potturi.

Westwood Intermediate School’s second place team members are Michael Erickson, Sarah Fetter, Taylor Kaiser, Calvin Kettering, David Lewandowski, Jay Lohse, Nick Ludgate, and Anthony Shannon.
