Get up-to-the-minute news
Sign up
now for E-News Updates from Spring Lake Park School District 16
A new communications
feature has just been launched in the Spring Lake Park Schools. We
call it E-News Updates.
You can now select from a menu of district, school, or department
news sources and updates will be periodically sent to your e-mail
address.
The
initial E-News Update choices: District News, School
Closings/Emergency Announcements, School Board Agendas/Minutes,
Weekly Athletic Schedules, Kenneth Hall Elementary, Learning
Alternatives, Park Terrace Elementary, Spring Lake Park High School,
Westwood Elementary, Westwood Middle School, and Woodcrest
Elementary.
Subscribing
to this new service is easy. Go to the school district home page
www.springlakeparkschools.org (or any of the schools’ home
pages) and select “E-News sign-up.” Once there, you’ve only to
check the boxes of the news updates you’re interested in receiving,
enter your e-mail address, and hit “subscribe.” Try it, we think
you’ll like it. If you don’t, “unsubscribing” is easy to do as
well.
A lot of time, passion, dedication, and
effort results in a lot of school district history
The long-time efforts of three long-time
school district residents, one now deceased, have resulted in the
completion of “Spring Lake Park School District 16: Its
Predecessors, Creation, and Growth Through 1976.” This nearly
300-page book was compiled and written over a 15-year period.
t is a result of the passion and commitment of Mr. Robert Lindquist,
long-time resident, friend of education, and one of the district’s
first School Board Chairs; Mr. Ross Johnson, former Director of
Elementary Education and a former School Board member; and Mr. Ed
Knalson, the District’s second Superintendent of Schools and
also a former School Board member. Mr. Knalson passed away in 1995.
The book is an amazing story of the
birth of a school district and the cities and townships around it.
It is a must read for anyone who loves history and loves this
special area of the Twin Cities.
Copies are available for only $10, plus shipping
and handling. To find out
more, contact Kathy Serpinas in the District Offices at 763-785-5513
or kserpi@district16.org
A message from
the Spring Lake Park High School Alumni Association
The Alumni Association is proceeding
with the planning of an All-Class Reunion on Saturday, August 18,
2007 at the National Sports Center in Blaine. Seem like a long way off?
Yes it is, but now you can plan ahead!
The all-class reunion will be in
conjunction with other school activities to celebrate the 50th
Anniversary. The plan is to begin activities with Homecoming 2006 and
conclude with Homecoming 2007. Your help and assistance is critical in
making this special event a success.
We are hopeful that 3,500 – 4,000
alumni and guests (there are approximately 12,000 alums) will attend
the 2007 reunion. While it is a bit early, we anticipate that the
all-class reunion will cost $30-$40 per person.
Start-up costs will be our first hurdle. We would appreciate
an initial contribution of $10 or more—from whomever is willing—but
will gladly accept any contribution. This can be sent to: SLP Alumni
Association, P.O. Box 49486 Blaine, MN 55449.
We cannot emphasize enough that we need
VOLUNTEERS!
Any questions, comments, or
suggestions on the reunion can be sent to: administrative chair Dawn
Schnickels-Johnson, 763-767-0055, dawnhope@aol.com;
or data operations expert: Rick Meyer, 763-757-5089, rick.o.meyer@supervalu.com
In addition, as always, forward
information on fellow alumni, about your individual class reunion
plans and who is planning them. We can often be of great assistance in
these efforts.
We’d like to hear from you! We ask
that when sending an e-mail that you include your full name (and
maiden name) and the year you graduated.
Like a
tour?
If it’s been awhile since you’ve visited, we think you’d
like the changes you’ll find. There’s a lot to be proud of.
Depending upon your desires, we’re willing to schedule a monthly tour
over the next twelve months with students and/or staff as your guides.
Tell us what you think...or if you are interested.
Still
got that school spirit?
